Meet the Board of Directors

DR. MARIA JOSEPH-KING, BOARD CHAIR

Dr. Maria L. Joseph-King is a Senior Statistician at General Dynamics Information Technology. Formerly, she was a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at Texas A&M University. She has earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Statistics and a Master of Science in Statistics from Iowa State University (ISU). She has also earned a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics from Kentucky State University. Dr. Maria enjoys teaching, mentoring, and serving her community. During her time as a student at ISU, she served as a tutor for the Department of Veteran Affairs, Tutor.com, college students, as well as elementary, middle, and high school students. She was also the President of ISU CONNECT, an organization focused on tutoring and mentoring children, among other initiatives.

kimberly wayne, founder and executive director

Kimberly Wayne is a Continuous Improvement (CI) Process Regional Manager for Canada and the United States at Siegwerk Company. Kimberly has been in the CI and quality field for 16 years where she deploys Lean and Six Sigma process improvement methodologies throughout manufacturing facilities. Her career started at 3M Company as a manufacturing engineer for the Personal Care products division. She then worked at Goodrich Corporation as CI Manager for the Engine Components Division. She has a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and a Masters of Business Administration from Iowa State University. She is a second year doctoral student at Drake through the Educational Leadership Program.
She currently serves on the South Central Regional STEM Advisory board appointed by the Governor.  She is a member of several organizations such as American Business Women Association (ABWA), the Governor’s Board of Commissioners for the Status of African-Americans in Iowa and a member of Cornerstone Family Church in Des Moines, IA.  Kimberly started serving in her community 20 years ago as chair of the Youth Advisory Council in Gary, Indiana.  She has a personal mission to empower youth through education and self-development.

Kendra Jones, Secretary

Kendra Jones is a graduate of Purdue University with a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering. She later received a M.S. degree in Biostatistics from the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. Currently she works at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the department of Epidemiology and Cancer control and she has held previous positions in the pharmaceutical industry and in academia. In 2010, she graduated from the United Way of Central Indiana’s Leadership United program where she completed an intense training for board leadership service. She has previously volunteered as an elementary school tutor with the Indianapolis Public Schools. Most recently she serves as a mentor through the American Statistical Association’s Committee on Minorities in Statistics and serves on the Purdue University Track and Field Alumni Leadership Board. She is also an avid runner with a passion for health and fitness.  She was recently featured in the Health + Fitness Magazine November 2014 Issue for her noteworthy level of fitness.

Attorney, Julia Ofenbach

Julia A. Ofenbakh has an extensive background in business and a passion for helping small business owners with legal needs of any type, big or small.
Ms. Ofenbakh received her preparatory education at Kean University, Union, New Jersey, graduating in 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science. She received her Juris Doctorate and Master in Business Administration from Drake University.While in law school, she was a member of the Drake Law School Intellectual Property Moot Court Team and was a regional semi-finalist in Giles Sutherland Rich Moot Court Competition. Ms. Ofenbakh also worked as a law clerk for the Department of Natural Resources and the Principal Financial Group.
Prior to law school, Ms. Ofenbakh worked in various companies as a system administrator specializing in networking and security, as well as a project manager implementing all aspects of new products for new clients.

Alynn Kruse, youth Advocate

Alynn Kruse is a senior at Urbandale High School. She enjoys volleyball, tennis and playing with her little sister Katy.  She was a youth instructor with Jewels Academy in 2015 where her specialty was Chewing Gum, the food science workshop.  Alynn lifeguarded at a West Des Moines pool the summer of 2015, and it has kept her on my toes!  She has a passion for S.T.E.M and enjoys sharing that passion with young girls.  She plans to continue her education to one day become a pediatric physician.
